Despite a dire weather forecast, Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton’s Air Day 2009 attracted a capacity crowd to see the Royal Navy celebrate 100 years of aircraft operation and an impressive series of displays.

Fortunately the worst of the weather held off and the 2 big set pieces, the big formation fly-by and the Commando Assault went on almost to plan.

To a cavalcade of regular displays add rare appearances like the Dassault Rafale, key historic types including the Sea Vixen and Seafire and almost every current navy type appearing at some point during the day.

The season started with Biggin Hill hosting the debut of the RAF’s spectacular Role Demonstration. The RAF Cosford show was an action packed 1 day event which witnessed remarkable aerobatic displays from the Blades and Denny Dobson.

RAF Valley in Anglesey is home to the historic No 4 Flying Training School, Strike Commands Air to Air Missile Establishment and also search and rescue helicopters.

The show naturally attracted a big contingent of current and historical RAF types and we include these in Part II including the RAF Valley Solo Display Hawk.

In Part I we show the foreign participants including the national aerobatic teams of Italy and Chile and also some rare privately owned ex-military jets, all of which saw service at Valley at some stage.

Military Airshow presents the highlights from 6 of the UK's premier events in a 90 minute feast of spactacular action. A massive range of military metal from 10 countries including Russia appear in an all action style that will bring hours of pleasure to any aircraft enthusiast.

In March 1993 the last airworthy Vulcan XH558 was retired to Bruntingthorpe joining a brace of Lightnings from the same era. Though these aircraft are unable to fly, the prospect of simply hearing them start up and make high speed runs was enough to attract a huge crowd

The airfield, once the home of the giant B47 Stratojet bombers again echoed to the sound of "Big Thunder".

Fighter Meet is a 2 day event held in May at the former Battle of Britain airfield of North Weald in Essex.

Its reputation has grown to be one of teh foremost events in the aviation calendar and Fighter Meet '94 had the honour of being chosen as the RAF's official D-Day airshow.

Biggin Hill International Air Fair is a two day event held every year. The organisers excited themselves for the 1994 show, attracting a huge range of participants and this full 82 minute video, featuring every aircraft displaying, does full justice to one of the best ever airshows at this historic Battle of Britain fighter station.

Military Airshow '92 is a compilation of the very best airshow action featuring a whole range of fighters, bombers, helicopters and transport displayed in the UK in 1992 introduced by David Oliver, editor of Airforces Monthly.

The oldest and newest are featured, so whilst saying goodbye to types like the Phantom, Buccaneer and F-111 we thrill to the sight of Rafale, Gripen, F--17 Stealth and new derivatives like the Harrier GR.7 and F-15E Strike Eagle.

Here it is again - Britain's Greatest Air Show - Farnborough! Every two years the premier aerospace manufacturers of the world gather to display the very latest in their technological achievements - the most exciting being tested in the air before upwards of 100,000 spectators.

This video concentrates only on the flying everyone wants to see. No interviews and no music intrude on the action.

The Royal Naval Air Stations at Yeovilton and Culdrose are the two biggest in the UK and they each out on a massive show to thousands of visitors in 1994.

The brand new Sea Harrier FRS 2 launches from Yeovilton's 'ski jump' and the Italian Tornado does nearly the same from a hard runway! Indeed, the Italians were out in force at these events with rare and spectacular displays by the new Avanti, G222, MB339 and iced by the Frecce Tricolori, arguably the world's best national aerobatic team.
