Despite a dire weather forecast, Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton’s Air Day 2009 attracted a capacity crowd to see the Royal Navy celebrate 100 years of aircraft operation and an impressive series of displays.

Fortunately the worst of the weather held off and the 2 big set pieces, the big formation fly-by and the Commando Assault went on almost to plan.

To a cavalcade of regular displays add rare appearances like the Dassault Rafale, key historic types including the Sea Vixen and Seafire and almost every current navy type appearing at some point during the day.

RNAS Yeovilton Airday 2008 treated us to a mix of thrills and spectacle and a surprise display in the form of the VAAC Harrier – an airframe not just of historical importance to the Navy but to its future too given the research work it’s tasked with.

Sadly the strong winds kept the more delicate and precious types on the ground – we’ve included bonuses to show these from shows elsewhere - but some dramatic skies and skilful flying (and parachuting!) made it an event to remember.

Clear air and dramatic skies set the stage for a supporting cast of Navy types, past and present, plus RAF and civilian operators. The magnificent South African Airways Boeing 747 nearly stole the show!

The finale was a spectacular attack, demonstrating the awesome capability of the UK's armed forces.

Navy types, past and present, UK and foreign featured at Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton’s 2006 “Air Day”. The RAF supported strongly and the Typhoon appeared for the first time.

It is the Commando Assault finale that Yeovilton is famous for and the Sea Kings, Lynx, Merlins, Harriers, Hawks, Falcons and troops were out in force with explosive effect!

The Yeovilton Air Day 2007 attracted massive crowds who enjoyed a fine summer’s day packed with exciting aerial displays from the UK and Europe.

An added bonus for visitors is the large Fleet Air Arm Museum but our brief is action in the air and this DVD features everything in the flying display in the order it flew on the day. Particular highlights were the Patrouille Suisse with their F-5E Tiger II aircraft and the unique sight, in 2007, of 2 Harrier GR9s performing in the spectacular Commando Assault Finale.
