Fly Navy 100: Yeovilton International Air Day & Culdrose Air Day 2009 [DVD]

SKU: PTV-155D

Despite a dire weather forecast, Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton’s Air Day 2009 attracted a capacity crowd to see the Royal Navy celebrate 100 years of aircraft operation and an impressive series of displays.

Fortunately the worst of the weather held off and the 2 big set pieces, the big formation fly-by and the Commando Assault went on almost to plan.

To a cavalcade of regular displays add rare appearances like the Dassault Rafale, key historic types including the Sea Vixen and Seafire and almost every current navy type appearing at some point during the day.

At RNAS Culdrose the rain cleared to reveal a crystal clear sky and some of the items we did not see at Yeovilton were able to display in fabulous conditions.

Hi The.Mike

Thanks for your feedback regarding the Yeovilton DVD, I'm sorry you're not satisfied with the programme.

There are a couple of points I'd like to clarify.

The final duration of the Yeovilton element of this DVD is 1 hour, taken from over 10 hours of recording over two days spent at RNAS Yeovilton with three cameras. The show was, as you say, limited by the weather conditions. As a result the fantastic line-up didn't come to full fruition, we lost:

Frecce Tricolori, Typhoon, Chinook, Skyraider, Hurribomber, Vampire, Dutch F-16, Blue Eagles' Lynx, Rolls Royce Spit and significantly the Vulcan.

The following displays were significantly limited:

FRADU Hawks, FAF Rafale, Belgian F-16, Jordanian Falcons, Red Arrows, Navy 100 Balbo (no front-line fixed wing) and the Commando Assault finale (no fixed wing).

As a result I made the decision to include Culdrose in the final DVD programme to give customers a product that is a more entertaining and comprehensive record of the Navy100 celebrations. The fantastic displays from the Typhoon and Sea Vixen in stunning conditions at Culdrose stand out for me.

Regarding your comment about Harrier arrival material being used again and again - this is not the case. The Harriers are shown landing at the start of the programme having completed their practise display. The low level ground attack runs used during the assault finale are taken from that practise display.

I’m afraid I can’t accept your comment about the commando assault being truncated. That segment lasts more than 17 minutes and is full of spectacular action recorded during the practise and show day.

I’d be interested to see your video material and that of your friend.

Kind regards
Iain

To say that I was looking forward to this dvd was an understatement. I enjoyed the day itself despite the low ceiling and lack of fast jet displays. The rotor element was well worth the entrance fee and the day out with friends was a bonus. However to read that you combined the two shows of Culdrose and Yeovilton because of a lack of footage was a bit strange as I myself took over 45 mins on my DSLR along with several hundred photos and my mate took several minutes more than me on his 1080p camcorder until his battery died. Maybe if you hadn't truncated the finale and edited the same shot of the Harriers arriving on the Friday over and over again and just showed a bit more of the other elements in the show it would have been worth it. I won't be buying another Planes.tv production if this is how they are made. I'll stick to my own footage.

Hello all - the Yeovilton and Culdrose DVD is approaching completion. I'm very sorry about the delay in production but I'm endeavouring to make the wait worthwhile.

Because of the weather conditions at both Navy events we've combined them on one programme. This has added to an already delayed production schedule. However, it does mean that with the free Vulcan DVD, received when pre-ordering, you'll be receiving three programmes for the price of one.

If you have any specific queries regarding orders placed, or if you require further information please don't hesitate to give us a call.

I should say that despite the appalling weather at both events the finished programme looks excellent - fantastic displays by the Rafale at Yeovilton and Sea Vixen at Culdrose make this one of my favourite programmes of the season.

Best regards,
Iain
