There was a sense of history being made at the Old Flying Machine Company's
Classic Jet and Fighter Airshow at Duxford in 1996 as preservationists continue
to push the boundaries of civil operation of ex-military jets. Glorious weather backed a flying cavalcade of over 20 pioneering jet aircraft of a dozen different types. Martin Baker's Meteor represented the genesis of jet power and the ubiquitious Hawker Hunter thoroughbred made its debut in OFMC hands. Civil airliners featured too, including the Comet and Concorde making a timely diversion from Heathrow's anniversary celebrations. Some famous piston types bring an audible respite OFMC's Dewoitine D27 made its debut - but jets dominate this video. The reported prospect of a flying Mig 17 or even a Mig 21 and Phantom maintains the excitement till the end. |
