A10 Thunderbolt

Amongst the stars were the USAF Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team and their six F16 fighters. This video features a full 16 minutes of their polished performance drawing material from Lakenheath and Upper Heyford where they also displayed.

1991 was a special year for Alconbury marking the impending departure of the A10 yet celebrating the type's success in the Gulf War. A big static line up showed off imaginative nose-arts and kill markings and they were joined by many other Gulf 'veterans' USAF and RAF. The DVD, however, concentrates on the flying display with US types prominent. The A10, F15 and TR1 are particularly impressive as is the A7 Corsair II of the Portuguese Air Force performing an extremely rare display.

RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk is operated by the United States Air Force and hosts a big military airshow over the two days of the Spring Bank Holiday.

1991 was the 15th annual event and included rare displays by the heaviest metal in the USAF inventory including the B1 and B52 bombers, the C5 Galaxy and C141 Starlifter transports and Mildenhall's own KC135's tankers.

Fast Jets included the F15,F16, Tornado and Mirage 2000.

The RAF's Shackleton made one of its last ever appearances contrasting poignantly with displays by the E3A AWAACS and Nimrod.

Woodford is the site of the historic Avro company and highlights of this years show are the Vulcans 30th birthday plus a rare display by a FRADU single seat hunter.

Army Air Corps Middle Wallop '90

Choppers rule at this beautiful and historic grass strip airfield and the 'mass approach' of over 80 helicopters is spectacular. The veteran Whirlwind and lethal Apache are rare display items.

Flypast Excerpts

In these excerpts from programme number 29 'Battle of Britain Flypast' we go behind the scenes of preparations, taxi-ing and take offs of some of the types in the big Buckingham Palace flypast.

USAF Gold, Part 1, featured the US Air Forces Anniversary display at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. The biggest annual USAF show in Europe is "Air Fete" at Mildenhall in England. This video draws together the highlights of the '96, '97 and '98 events.

A full line-up of US types includes the B2A Spirit 'stealth bomber' and the UK flying debut of the F117A Nighthawk. Also featured are B1, B52, C5, C17, C130, F15, F16, A10, MH53 and more including The Thunderbirds display team.
