The RAF was out in force in glorious weather for the Waddington 2006 show. As a former bomber and now reconnaissance base it was appropriate to debut the new Sentinal R1, but also to pay a final tribute to the retiring Canberra. We present an extended tribute plus its blistering display on the Canberra Farewell - Waddington Airshow 2006 DVD.

The English Electric Canberra was a first-generation jet-powered light bomber manufactured in large numbers through the 1950s. It proved to be highly adaptable, serving in such varied roles for tactical bombing, photographic, electronics, and meteorological reconnaissance. The Canberra remained in service with the Royal Air Force until 23 June 2006, 57 years after its first flight.

Aviation Action's cameras attended 19 events in 1994 and we draw on the very best material in this thrilling "all action" video. Historic Airshow spans the whole spectrum of aviation, Shuttleworth's vintage gems, a Vickers Vimy biplane bomber departing on its historic flight to Australia contrasts with the airshow debuts of several ex-military jets now operated privately.Draken, Canberra, MiG 15 and prototype Jet Provost. These join the Meteor, Sabre, Hunters and Lightning T5 are new 'ground runners'.

The midweek airshow in late July has been a regular event and attracts not only a big crowd of holiday makers but also some very rare aircraft. 1991 was no exception with displays by the Italian National Aerobatic team. 'Frecce Tricolori', a Royal New Zealand Air Force Hercules, a Canberra and a very rare Andreasson BA4B. The Irish Air Corps also sent a contingent but the stars were undoubtedly the Czechoslovakian Air Force with the MiG29, MiG23 and L39 Albatross.

"The delightful grass strip at Barton, Manchester is just off the M63 and, every May, hosts an extensive flying display. The 'barnstorming' fun is balanced by warbirds, and heavy metal and the organisers always manage to pull in something special. Enthusiasts this year were especially pleased to see impressive displays by the Boeing 757 and some vintage jets including an RAE Canberra."
